iPhone 18 Pro and the foldable iPhone Duo launch with the A20 Pro

The iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max arrive on 18 September, and the foldable iPhone Duo follows on 23 October. All three use the same 6c CPU / 7c GPU A20 Pro, the only member of the A20 family so far.

CPU GPU Neural Engine Ray tracing
A20 Pro 6c/7c 2 super + 4 eff 7 cores 2 × 16 cores Yes
A19 Pro 6c/6c 2 perf + 4 eff 6 cores 16 cores Yes
A19 Pro 6c/5c 2 perf + 4 eff 5 cores 16 cores Yes

The core count is unchanged at 6, but the tiers underneath it are not. The A19 Pro paired 2 performance cores with 4 efficiency cores; the A20 Pro replaces the performance pair with super cores and carries no performance tier at all. That is the same two-tier arrangement the M5 brought to the Mac last October, and the A-series has now followed it — while the M6 reaching the Mac mini on 22 September went the other way and put a middle tier back in.

The Neural Engine doubles. Apple describes a dual 16-core Neural Engine, 32 cores against the A19 Pro's 16, matching the split the M6 uses. The GPU gains a seventh core with Neural Accelerators, keeps hardware ray tracing, and the media block adds ProRes RAW alongside ProRes, H.264 and HEVC — the A19 Pro recorded ProRes but not ProRes RAW.

The Pro Max is the one without a modem chip

The C2 is Apple's second-generation cellular modem, replacing the C1X that shipped across the iPhone 17 line. It is listed for the iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone Duo — but not for the iPhone 18 Pro Max, which is the first time a Pro and a Pro Max have differed on silicon in any generation. The N1 and U2 are in all three.

iPhone Duo: two displays, two batteries, one A20 Pro

The Duo drives a 7.6-inch inner display and a 5.4-inch outer display from a single A20 Pro, with two batteries behind them. It is also the first iPhone since the iPhone SE (3rd generation) to use Touch ID instead of Face ID, with the sensor in the side button, and the first to ship with dual eSIM and no physical SIM tray option at all.

The iPhone 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max and iPhone 16 Plus have left the lineup. The iPhone Air, iPhone 17, 17e and iPhone 16 all continue.
